The Savanna breed originated in the tough arid climate of South Africa by combining the hardiness of the indigenous populations with other breeds to create robust animals with the potential to grow quickly.  They are well muscled and produce an excellent carcass to meet market demands.  They are generally disease resistant, a trait that contributes to their overall performance.  Savannas are prolific, routinely producing twins.  They are known for their outstanding ability to mother their kids and nurture them to weaning.  After weaning, the kids continue to grow rapidly and mature into outstanding additions to the breeding herd and the auction arena.

In addition to their unique ability to forage, their outstanding carcass qualities, their superior reproductive performance and their disease resistance, Savannas combine aesthetic appeal with winning personalities.  They are docile, friendly and curious.  Their black noses, stocky stance and upturned tail make them attractive additions to any property.  Their white coats reflect the intense California sun and together with their black skin protects them from damaging UV radiation.

Not every Savanna buck is destined to remain in a Savanna herd.  Their rapid growth rate, overall thriftiness and carcass characteristics make them an ideal terminal sire in any breeding program.  A Savanna buck can be used on does of any genetic background to create large offspring with rapid growth rates and excellent carcass characteristics.
